For some reason this automobile has piqued my interest. I'm thinking I could totally be an Uber driver in this thing.
http://www.carmax.com/enus/view-car/…
Update: It seems since I emailed them about it they took it off their site. Is Carmax really one to play this game?

It's basically a tall Cobalt SS hatchback, right?
![]() 01/12/2015 at 19:55 |

Ubering a HHR SS? Hmm.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 19:55 |

I mean, it's basically a Cobalt SS Turbo wagon.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 19:57 |

There's just something about that front bumper...
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:00 |

Look at the Panel HHR SS.
THAT is cool.

If you can put up with the laughably cheap build quality, the power train should be alright. Make sure the ignition recall was done.

My dad enjoyed the one he had as a rental. Non ss of course.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:04 |

Interesting, I always thought they seemed dreadful but this one has that something.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:04 |

I'm thinking of using it as an Uber car, what do you think my views toward the build quality is? Also, good point.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:05 |

Those exist? Can they be had with the sunroof?
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:05 |

True, true. I thought Uber cars had to be black?
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:05 |
|
Positive or negative? I'm not sure?
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:06 |
|
I'm not sure, I never finished the application for it. I know uber black cars all have to be a certain type and black.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:06 |

I like the HHR SS more than I should
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:08 |

I'm not a fan, to me it's more comical than attractive. But style is subjective, so it doesn't matter what I think if others like it.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:10 |

Too old for Uber, I think it has to be 2011 and newer.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:11 |

Yes and Yes!

Had one as a rental when they were relatively new... my only memory was of the worst interior space and visibility I have ever experienced in a 3 or 5 door car.
Also generally shitty build quality, but it was a bargain basement rental car so that didn't make such an impression.

powertrain... Chassis... Suspension... Brakes...seats...
Fantastic.
Interior materials...
Plastic fantastic.
The SS is a great, solid platform though and a TOTAL change over the base HHR.

I know someone who drives for Uber and their car is a weird silver/blue/grey thing.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:19 |
|
I think it depends on your point of reference for cars and general standards.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:19 |

Interesting. For some reason I have the urge to make it mid engined.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:20 |

2011 or newer is for UberBlack, UberX is 2005 or newer I believe.

Of quirky vehicles it's not my favorite and I'm crazy for the oddballs. My favorite cars are things like the Vehicross, Aztec and Edsel Ranger.

Whoops, You right!
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:22 |

Same here my friend.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:23 |

I'm thinking it would be an interesting side job. Driving a taxi(or something really close in this case) is a bucket list item for me, yes I'm a weirdo.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:24 |

Same, I'd always thought it would be something interesting to do. I actually wanted to be a NYC taxi driver for a while, Haha.
I'd have to drive a Crown Vic though, Nothing else.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:48 |

I like the thought of driving whatever vehicle I choose. I would love to do a Ranjit type thing though.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:50 |
|
I'd just want to do something for a very short amount of time, Just to experience it. And then I'd be done, Just like that.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:53 |
|
One could do that with uber, it actually seems like the easiest way to do it.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:55 |
|
Yup, That is probably the easiest way to go about doing that.
![]() 01/12/2015 at 20:58 |

Twin engined Panel HHR...
I could like that.

I need to go to a school where I can learn how to properly achieve these ideas. If my imagination had a means of being unleashed on the world I think my cars could make Jalopnik front page(high aspirations right?).
![]() 01/12/2015 at 22:25 |
|
Hey, high aspirations make high goals
![]() 01/12/2015 at 22:27 |

You could be the only Uber driver with a 100% client-to-hurl ratio due to speed, cornering and hangovers. Invest in the weather tech floor mats

I own a Cobalt SS Turbo, same platform.
Get it. You will love it, just keep up on maintenance, change the plugs every like 20-30k, they seem to run better the more often you change them. I do my gear oil every 20k or so.
Make sure it has been taken care of and get a full warranty on it, aftermarket parts are a nightmare to find sometimes. Do not do any aftermarket intake unless you are tuned.
Does it have RPD? Its a screen where the boost gauge should be.
Launch control is worthless. No lift shift makes beautiful noises though.
They are high maintenance, but worth it.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 10:44 |
|
I could do that in a 500L, but I get your point.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 12:04 |
|
But what makes the SS unique is the total disconnect between the shape and look fo the car versus what it can do. A 500L looks the part. This does not.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 12:26 |

It's at Carmax and a tad under book value( that really doesn't mean much) and is selling for less that similar ones with more miles and non-SS. Smack a the Carmax warranty on that and it sounds worthwhile.

More than worth while
Which trans?
Auto or the Getrag 5 speed?
If you get it it might be worth adding me on facebook or whatever incase things come up.
